The Kano State Censorship Board has announced the suspension of all entertainment activities across the state ahead of the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a directive issued on Tuesday, the Board ordered the closure of all entertainment centres, including event centres, popularly known as gala houses, and the suspension of DJ operations throughout the fasting period.

The board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, issued the order in a statement on Tuesday, a copy made available to newsmen in Kano.

The directive, which takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, will remain in force until the end of Ramadan.

According to the Board, the decision was taken to enable residents to observe the Ramadan fast and carry out their religious obligations in a peaceful and undisturbed atmosphere.

It stated that the date for reopening the affected centres, particularly in preparation for Eid celebrations, would be announced at the appropriate time.

The board called on all stakeholders to comply fully with the directive in line with the law establishing the agency, noting that the measure forms part of its mandate to ensure strict adherence to regulations guiding entertainment activities in the state.

It further prayed for a peaceful and healthy observance of the holy month, asking God to grant residents the opportunity to witness the blessed month in mercy and prosperity.
