The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of a physically-challenged lawyer, Ms. Kindness Ikponmwosa Idahosa, as a Law Officer in the Ministry of Justice.

The development underscores his administration’s commitment to inclusion, equal opportunity, and genuine empowerment of persons with disabilities.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the appointment sends a clear message that disability does not diminish potential, emphasizing that there is always ability in every disability. The statement added that the state is intentional about creating pathways for talented and hardworking citizens, regardless of their physical limitations.

Idahosa’s remarkable story is one of perseverance and triumph over adversity. She was diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, a debilitating spinal condition that forced her to drop out of school in JSS 3, leaving her at home for thirteen years. Relief came when the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities intervened and sponsored her return to education.

She later enrolled at the University of Benin, graduating with a Second Class Upper Division in Law in 2023, and subsequently attended the Nigerian Law School in 2024. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025.

CPS Ebojele described Governor Okpebholo’s approval of Idahosa’s appointment as “a strong example of the administration’s commitment to fairness, inclusion, and practical support for Edo citizens striving against the odds.”

Advocates for disability rights have hailed the appointment as a bold move demonstrating the governor’s willingness to match words with action by giving opportunities based on merit and capability.

Idahosa is expected to resume her duties immediately in the Ministry of Justice.
