Corporate Affairs Commission

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Nigeria’s primary regulatory body for company registrations, has issued a stern public advisory cautioning citizens, investors, and businesses against engaging with a list of purported entities that are not registered in its official records.

The notice, released today, highlights the growing threat of fraudulent activities masquerading as legitimate businesses and underscores the CAC’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s corporate landscape.

In a statement signed by CAC Management, the commission emphasized its statutory duty to maintain an accurate and reliable companies register while protecting stakeholders from scams. “The attention of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has been drawn to the circulation and use of certain purported company names and registration numbers which are NOT registered in our records,” the notice reads. It urges the public to exercise the “highest level of caution” when dealing with the listed entities and their associated fake Registration Certificate (RC) or Business Name (BN) numbers.

The advisory comes amid rising concerns over business impersonation in Nigeria, where fraudsters exploit unregistered names to deceive unsuspecting individuals into fraudulent transactions, investments, or contracts. The CAC has repeatedly warned that verifying entity status via its official portal remains the only reliable method to avoid such pitfalls.

The following companies and business names, along with their claimed but invalid registration details, have been flagged as non-existent in CAC records:

The commission advises the public to “always verify the status of any company or business name directly from the CAC portal” at its official public search platform. The free online tool allows instant checks using proposed or claimed names and registration numbers.

CAC Flags 15 Unregistered Companies

This notice aligns with the CAC’s ongoing efforts to combat corporate fraud, particularly in sectors such as real estate, construction, investments, and hospitality where several of the flagged entities claim operations. Experts warn that falling victim to such schemes can lead to financial losses, legal complications, and reputational damage.

“The CAC remains committed to protecting the integrity of the Companies Register, upholding the law, and ensuring a safe and transparent business environment in Nigeria,” the statement concludes.
