President Bola Tinubu has expanded Nigeria’s diplomatic corps with the nomination of 32 new ambassadors, in a fresh push to strengthen the nation’s global representation.

In a statement on Saturday, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that the President has forwarded the nominees’ names to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

Tinubu, in two separate letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urged the upper chamber to fast-track the confirmation process to bolster Nigeria’s presence in key bilateral and multilateral missions.

The list consists of 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees, including four women among the career diplomats and six women in the non-career category.

They are expected to be deployed to missions in strategic countries such as China, India, South Korea, Canada, Mexico, the UAE, Qatar, South Africa, and Kenya, as well as multilateral postings to the United Nations, UNESCO, and the African Union.

Among the prominent non-career nominees are former presidential aide Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu (Abia), public affairs analyst Reno Omokri (Delta), former INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo, and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Others include former Katsina Speaker Tasiu Musa Maigari, former Plateau Commissioner Yakubu N. Gambo, and former UBEC Deputy Executive Secretary Tasiu Maigari.

Also nominated are former Plateau Senator Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut, former Lagos Deputy Governor Otunba Femi Pedro, former Aviation Minister Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, and Barrister Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Anambra).

The list further includes former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi, former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande, former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent, former Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, and former ambassador to the Holy See, Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu.

Career diplomats on the list include Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), and Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim (Ogun).

Others are Abimbola Samuel Reuben (Ondo), Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah (Edo), Hamza Mohammed Salau (Niger), Ambassador Shehu Barde (Katsina), Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno (Borno), Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru (Kaduna), Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari (Kwara), and Ambassador Wahab Adekola Akande (Osun).

Their postings will be announced after Senate confirmation.

Last week, Tinubu submitted an initial batch of three envoys, Ambassador Ayodele Oke (Oyo), Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu (Jigawa), and retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are (Ogun), expected to be deployed to missions in the United Kingdom, the United States, or France.
