Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed on to glory at the age of 80.
The announcement was made on his official Instagram page, @Uma_Ukpai, on Monday, confirming that the revered preacher died on October 6, 2025.
A global evangelist, teacher, and humanitarian, Ukpai rose from humble beginnings in Ohafia, Abia State, to become a spiritual voice of unity, healing, and hope. For over six decades, his ministry combined faith with compassion, touching lives through crusades, education, and healthcare across Nigeria and beyond.
Rev. Ukpai was a founding pillar of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), helping to unite diverse Christian denominations following his historic Greater Lagos for Christ Crusade in 1985.
Orphaned at the age of 10, Ukpai’s early struggles inspired his deep compassion for the needy and shaped his life’s mission — one that reached across continents.
Beyond his evangelistic calling, he was also a man of intellect. Ukpai held qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Journalism, and Divinity, a blend that gave his ministry a rare combination of practicality and spiritual depth.
Through his UUEA ministry, headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, he established vibrant outreach programmes, healing crusades, and empowerment initiatives that impacted millions.
His humanitarian footprint extended through the Uma Ukpai Eye Centre and King of Kings Hospital, which provided free and subsidised healthcare to rural communities. He also founded the Uma Ukpai Polytechnic and School of Theology, granting scholarships to hundreds of students through his Scholarship Foundation.
Rev. Ukpai was also a mentor to generations, having inspired many of Nigeria’s prominent pastors and evangelists who credit him as a spiritual father and guide.
Known as an apostle of unity and peace, he tirelessly preached national reconciliation and faith in God, especially during Nigeria’s most turbulent periods.
From his conversion at age 13 in 1958 until his passing at 80, Rev. Uma Ukpai’s voice remained unwavering — proclaiming a message of faith, healing, compassion, and hope for more than six decades.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family and ministry in the coming days.
