Chief Joe-Kyari Gadzama, SAN, has described the appointment of Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a perfect fit, urging the Senate to confirm his nomination without hesitation.
In a statement issued on Monday, Gadzama hailed Professor Amupitan as “a square peg in a square hole,” noting that his integrity, competence, and neutrality make him the ideal candidate to lead the nation’s electoral body.
“Professor Amupitan is an astute professional and a man of unwavering integrity. His laudable virtues of neutrality and an apolitical disposition are precisely what our electoral system requires to bolster public confidence and ensure impartiality,” Gadzama stated.
The senior lawyer, who has worked closely with Amupitan on several complex and non-partisan litigations, described him as a disciplined, courageous, and principled leader whose legal expertise and ethical standards stand out.
“Having worked with him on several matters, I can personally attest to his first-class character and formidable legal acumen,” he said. “It is these commendable attributes that distinguish him as a patriotic leader, exceptionally well-suited to guide INEC with fairness and strength.”
Gadzama further urged the Senate to confirm the nominee, expressing optimism that Professor Amupitan would steer the commission with integrity and vision.
“Our collective hope is that Professor Amupitan will sustain these sterling qualities throughout his tenure at INEC and beyond, leading the commission towards a future of greater credibility and public trust,” he added.
