The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has fixed Thursday, October 2, 2025, for judgment in the suit challenging the removal of members of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.

The case was instituted by Reverend Goodlife Iduoku Ben, Amadi Christian Echele, Chimenem Wisdom Jerome, and three others, who were appointed into the Commission by Governor Siminalayi Fubara but later dismissed by the then Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas.

The claimants argued that their removal was unlawful, insisting that their appointments had been duly confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly before they received appointment letters from the governor.

In their affidavit, they maintained that the Sole Administrator lacked the legal authority to suspend them or appoint a new chairman and members of the Commission.

Earlier, Justice Frank Onyiri, the trial judge, restrained Ibas from inaugurating another team of Commission members and ordered parties to maintain the status quo pending the court’s decision.

At Monday’s proceedings, Justice Onyiri adjourned judgment, noting that more time was needed before a final ruling could be delivered.

The defendants in the matter include Ibas, the Rivers State government, the Accountant-General, two commercial banks, and others.
