The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Lagos State, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, has called for sustained reforms, strategic investment and stronger collaboration to build a justice system capable of supporting investment, economic growth and public confidence in the state.

He made the call while delivering a goodwill message on behalf of himself and the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the 2026/2027 Legal Year Summit, held at The Jewel Aeida, Lekki, under the theme “Justice as an Economic Infrastructure: Strengthening the Judiciary for Africa’s Fifth Largest Economy.”
The Attorney-General said an efficient and accessible justice system is essential to protect property rights, enforce contracts, resolve disputes and provide confidence for citizens, businesses and investors.
He emphasised the need for improved judicial infrastructure, the development of human capital, and the increased use of technology, noting that electronic filing, digital case management and virtual proceedings could help reduce delays and improve access to justice.
The Attorney-General appealed to members of the legal profession to keep pace with emerging areas of practice, including artificial intelligence, cyber security, intellectual property and digital transactions, while upholding the core values of the profession.
He further encouraged the wider adoption of mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, to facilitate the faster and more cost-effective resolution of disputes.
He called for stronger collaboration among the judiciary, the executive, the legislature, the legal profession, the business community and other stakeholders, and urged participants to translate the discussions at the summit into practical and sustainable reforms.
