The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) has announced that Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming SRC National Dinner & After Party.
With a legal career spanning over two decades, Akangbe has built a reputation as a thought leader, mentor, and tireless advocate for justice. His expertise ranges from dispute resolution and corporate advisory to championing human rights, mentoring young lawyers, and shaping policy in Nigeria and beyond.
At the event, Akangbe will speak on the theme: “The Law, the Bar, and the Bench: Becoming the Lawyer of My Dream.” The session promises to inspire and equip young lawyers, students, and professionals with insights drawn from his vast experience in the legal profession.

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe is a distinguished legal practitioner, specializing in dispute resolution, tax litigation, capital markets, corporate law, and public law. As Managing Partner of Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore, he leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice, advising multinational corporations, financial institutions, and government entities on complex legal matters.
Akangbe holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Wolverhampton, a Master’s in International Commercial Law from the University of Westminster, and an MBA from the University of South Wales, UK. His career has been marked by innovative solutions in commercial litigation, constitutional law, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and cross-border regulatory compliance.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he has also served as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch (2019–2021), Chairman of the NBA Finance Committee, and is a current member of the NBA National Executive Council (NEC). Internationally, he serves on the IBA Anti-Corruption Committee for Africa.
A dedicated arbitrator, Akangbe is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and a former Vice Chairman of its Training & Development Sub-Committee in Nigeria. He is an approved tutor for CIArb fellowship programs and previously chaired the Young Members Group of CIArb Nigeria (2008–2014).
Beyond his professional practice, Akangbe has been a key figure in Nigeria’s financial and capital markets, guiding high-value transactions, insolvency, business recovery, and corporate governance matters. He is a member of the Business Recovery and Insolvency Practitioners Association of Nigeria (BRIPAN).
Akangbe is also a committed human rights advocate, handling numerous pro bono cases to protect the rights of women, children, and other vulnerable persons, and actively combating gender-based violence.
