Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, has extended warm congratulations to the newly called lawyers, popularly known as “new wigs,” on their admission to the Nigerian Bar.

In a statement of goodwill, Akangbe described the occasion as more than a personal achievement, stressing that it marks the assumption of a sacred trust. He emphasized that the practice of law is “not a marketplace for cleverness but a temple of justice,” urging the new entrants to see themselves as “servants of truth and stewards of equity.”

Akangbe noted that the call to the Bar confers both honour and responsibility. He reminded the new lawyers that society now looks to them as defenders of justice and guardians of the rule of law, and encouraged them to carry their new dignity with humility, discipline, and courage.

“Remember always that the lawyer’s worth is measured not by wealth or applause, but by fidelity to truth and constancy in the pursuit of justice,” he said.

He further called on the new lawyers to be principled, independent, and bold, yet restrained, highlighting the need for legal practitioners who uphold the Constitution and deploy the law as a tool for fairness, equity, and nation-building rather than oppression.

Akangbe concluded by welcoming the new entrants to the Bar, praying that their practice would be guided by wisdom, strengthened by diligence, and ennobled by an unwavering commitment to justice.
