Renowned politician and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) member, Buba Galadima, has sounded the alarm over rumors that the federal government plans to replace the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a retired Court Of Appeal Justice, whom he described as “renowned for dishonesty.”

Speaking on Prime Time, Galadima said such a move would be a direct threat to Nigeria’s stability. “If this happens, then we should be prepared for a civil war,” he warned, urging the government to reconsider any interference in the electoral commission.

Galadima also criticized the APC government for early campaign activities, claiming they were designed to exhaust opposition parties before elections. He described the Independent National Electoral Commission as compromised, saying it has failed to call politicians to order due to government influence.

Highlighting the growing relevance of the NNPP, Galadima cited recent by-election victories in Kano and Zamfara states, claiming the party had decisively won against the APC, despite attempts to nullify results. He argued that the NNPP’s focus on ideology rather than political convenience positions it as a strong opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.

Galadima further dismissed zoning debates, insisting that political offices should not be restricted by region. He urged unity among opposition forces, suggesting that collaboration between parties and credible candidates from the South and other regions could dislodge the incumbent government.

The veteran politician also condemned what he termed the misuse of security agencies and the judiciary to intimidate opposition members, asserting that Nigerians will resist any attempts to undermine democratic processes.

The NNPP has been consolidating its stronghold in Kano State, and Galadima emphasized that the party could deliver strong electoral results without forming alliances, citing Kano as a microcosm of its electoral strength.
