Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe SAN has been recognised by the African Women in Law Association (AWLA) for his remarkable support and commitment to empowering women within the legal profession.

The accolade, presented last week, celebrates Akangbe’s efforts in advancing inclusion, equity, and leadership opportunities for women across Africa’s legal landscape.

In a statement, Akangbe described the recognition as more than just an award, calling it a reminder that true leadership is reflected in the doors one opens, the voices one amplifies, and the equity one champions.

“AWLA’s vision of inclusion and excellence across Africa is one I proudly align with. I remain committed to supporting a Bar and a society where women thrive as equal partners in justice, leadership, and nation-building,” he said.

Akangbe, a former chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, expressed gratitude for the honour while acknowledging that much work remains to achieve full gender parity and empowerment in the legal profession.

The recognition is part of AWLA’s broader initiative to elevate women in law and promote transformative leadership across the continent.
