Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabiru Garba Marafa, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of adopting a “use-and-dump” style of leadership.

Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central in the Senate between 2011 and 2019 and served as Zamfara State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in 2023, said the decision was reached after extensive consultations with his supporters across the state.

The move followed a two-day meeting of the Senator Kabiru Marafa Consultative Forum held on August 27–28 in Kaduna, which brought together stakeholders from all 14 local government areas of Zamfara.

In a communiqué signed by its chairman, Comrade Bashir Muhammad Mafara, secretary, Dr. Mannir Bature Tsafe, and other members, the Forum expressed disappointment over what it described as Zamfara’s neglect under Tinubu’s administration despite the state’s loyalty during the 2023 elections.

The communiqué recalled that under Marafa’s coordination, President Tinubu won in Zamfara without physically visiting the state, after Marafa had assured him of victory and delivered on the promise.

However, the Forum lamented that:

  • Zamfara has been excluded from key appointments, receiving only a Minister of State slot while other Northwest states got two full ministerial positions each.
  • States where Tinubu lost, including Lagos, allegedly received more federal patronage than Zamfara.
  • Unlike other insecurity-ravaged states, Zamfara has not benefited from presidential visits or financial aid despite topping Nigeria’s list of kidnappings in 2024 with 1,203 abductions out of 4,722 nationwide.
  • Security forces were allegedly deployed to secure electoral victories for APC in the Kaura Namoda bye-election but failed to protect communities repeatedly attacked by bandits.

According to the Forum, this amounted to “sustained injustice, mistrust, marginalisation, and deliberate neglect” of Zamfara and its people.

“After exhaustive consultations and a critical review of prevailing circumstances, the entire political structure of Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa across the 147 wards of Zamfara State has formally resigned from the APC,” the communiqué declared.

The group added that it would announce its next political direction in due course, stressing that any decision will be guided by the collective interest of Zamfara people.
