Former Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch, Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN FCIArb (UK), has expressed profound sadness over the brutal killing of Mr. Innocent Igho, a legal practitioner and member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Port Harcourt Branch, in Delta State last week.

In a statement, Akangbe SAN said:
“A lawyer’s life is not just his own; it belongs also to his family, to the Bar, and to society at large. To take such a life violently is to wound us all. The Port Harcourt Branch has lost a brother, the Bar has lost a servant of justice, and his family has lost what can never be replaced.”

He called on the Nigeria Police Force and all relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the crime, apprehend the perpetrators, and ensure justice is served without delay, warning that failure to act would constitute a further assault on the values the legal profession upholds.

Akangbe SAN extended his condolences to Mr. Igho’s family and the Port Harcourt Branch of the NBA, emphasizing the importance of remaining steadfast in the pursuit of justice despite the challenges of practicing law in a society where life is often undervalued.

He concluded:
“May the soul of Mr. Innocent Igho find rest.”
