*Vows To Contest 2026 NBA Election Despite gbe Amoofin’s Decision

Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe SAN, Bencher and former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, has issued a statement addressing the recent decision by Egbe Amoofin Oodu’a to adopt a sole candidate for the forthcoming 2026 NBA Presidential Elections.

Akangbe confirmed that Egbe Amoofin Oodu’a established a five-member committee mandated to persuade all Yoruba aspirants to agree on a consensus candidate from the South West for the NBA presidency. The committee met individually and collectively with the aspirants but ultimately failed to secure any candidate stepping down.

He emphasized that he consistently opposed any undemocratic or predetermined process aimed at achieving a specific outcome. Akangbe clarified that no screening exercise or objective criteria were applied by the committee before adopting a sole candidate, which he regards as an undemocratic imposition by Egbe Amoofin Oodu’a’s leadership.

In light of this, Akangbe affirmed his continued commitment to contesting for the NBA presidency in 2026 and urged his supporters and associates, both within and outside Egbe Amoofin Oodu’a, to reject the adoption of any sole Yoruba or South West candidate as decided by a minority through an unfair process.

He concluded by reiterating that his aspiration remains firm and thanked his supporters for their continued encouragement.
