Former NBA 1st Vice President and 2026 presidential hopeful, John Aikpokpo-Martins, has commended the Rivers State Police Command for the arrest of seven suspects allegedly involved in the brutal killing of Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Bright Owhor, who was assassinated on July 5, 2025.

In a statement on Wednesday titled “IN THE MATTER OF THE MURDER OF BRIGHT OWHOR ESQ OF NBA PORT-HARCOURT,” Aikpokpo-Martins expressed satisfaction with the swift response of the police and the commendable role played by the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, under Mrs. Cordelia Eke.

“I delightfully acknowledge with satisfaction the report of the arrest by the Rivers State Police Command of 7 individuals alleged to be ‘cultists’ involved in the assassination of our learned colleague,” he said, adding that the swift investigation was “almost unparalleled.”

Aikpokpo-Martins praised the NBA Port Harcourt Branch for its “diligent efforts in ensuring that the dastardly murder… did not go uninvestigated like many such cases in the past,” noting that the association must always prioritise the welfare and security of its members.

He further applauded the branch’s unwavering commitment to justice, describing their actions as reflective of the NBA’s core values.

“Their commitment to pursuing justice for our fallen colleague… is a testament to the NBA’s values of promoting justice, the rule of law, and protecting the interests of its members,” he said.

While welcoming the progress so far, Aikpokpo-Martins called for continued vigilance in the prosecution process.

“We must monitor proceedings and processes. We must ensure due and diligent prosecution of the suspects without delay and in accordance with the dictates of the law,” he stressed.

He concluded by affirming the legal community’s resolve to see justice served: “Bright Owhor, Esq. must get justice in the end.”
