Suspended Kogi lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has petitioned the Senate to comply with a recent Federal High Court judgment declaring her six-month suspension “excessive and overreaching.”

The court, in a ruling delivered on July 4, urged the red chamber to consider reinstating the senator, stating that the suspension violated both the Constitution and the rights of her constituents to representation.

In a letter dated July 11, 2025, and addressed to the Senate through her legal team, M.J. Numa & Partners LLP, the embattled senator, demanded full compliance with the judgment delivered by Justice Binta Nyako.

She also vowed to resume legislative activities on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, citing constitutional breaches in her suspension.

“The Honourable Court made several findings and orders, including… that the six-month suspension imposed on the Plaintiff was excessive, overreaching, and inconsistent with her ability to comply with the provisions of Section 63 of the 1999 Constitution,” the petition stated.

“We respectfully demand that you give immediate effect to the clear and binding Order of the Federal High Court by taking all necessary steps to facilitate Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s resumption of her legislative duties forthwith,” it added.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6, 2025, following a motion accusing her of “unparliamentary conduct.”

She subsequently sued the Senate President, the Clerk of the National Assembly, and the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

“After the keenly contested quiz, Wesley School 2 for the Deaf, Surulere, emerged in first place, followed by Wesley School 1 for the Deaf, Surulere, in second place. Ojuwoye Community School Inclusive Unit, Mushin, secured the third position.

“The highlight of the day was the presentation of gifts and awards to the winners in recognition of their outstanding performance. The event marks another significant step by LASODA towards fostering inclusivity where everyone can participate and thrive regardless of their abilities.

It also provided a platform for students with disabilities to showcase their academic skills and compete on an equal footing with their peers.”
