The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of one of the most wanted criminals in the state’s recent history—Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso.

According to a statement released on Saturday, June 21, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Akinwande was apprehended on June 20, 2025, by Tactical Squad operatives during a highly coordinated special operation. He was captured at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after years of evading law enforcement.

Described as a notorious hired killer and cult leader, the 44-year-old suspect is alleged to have led multiple gangs responsible for a string of violent crimes including murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, and cult-related killings—especially in the Mushin axis of Lagos.

Hundeyin stated:

“This serial killer suspect is the most wanted suspect in Lagos history in recent time. His arrest marks a huge success in the ongoing fight against violent crimes that are threats to the security and safety of residents in Mushin and some other parts of Lagos State.”

From 2009 to 2024, Akinwande and his gangs reportedly orchestrated a reign of terror that left residents of Mushin and surrounding communities in fear. Despite his constant movement and elusiveness, the police remained undeterred in their pursuit, eventually tracking him to Ogun State.

A raid on his residence in Mushin following the arrest led to the recovery of a cache of deadly weapons and other incriminating materials. The items recovered include:

  • Two (2) AK-47 rifles
  • One (1) K2 Assault rifle
  • One (1) Red Ryder rifle
  • Three (3) pump action rifles
  • Two (2) locally made single-barrel pistols
  • Five (5) magazines
  • Fifty-seven (57) live cartridges
  • Seventy (70) rounds of 5.56mm live ammunition
  • Twenty-seven (27) rounds of 9mm ammunition
  • One (1) expended 5.56mm shell
  • One (1) dagger
  • Three (3) walkie-talkies
  • Nine (9) international passports belonging to different individuals

Police say Akinwande has made confessional statements regarding the weapons and their use in his coordinated attacks. The Command has pledged to ensure that he and his accomplices face the full weight of the law.

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements, assuring residents of continued operations to restore peace and security.
