The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has declared a nationwide strike, directing all its federal chapters to commence an indefinite industrial action from midnight, Sunday, June 1, 2025.

In a circular issued from its national headquarters and signed by the Acting General Secretary, M.J. Akwashiki, the union cited failed negotiations with the Federal Government as the reason for the strike.

“This directive follows unfruitful meetings in the instance of the Minister of Labour and Employment who was conciliating on our matter,” the circular read.

JUSUN stated that the strike action is backed by the union’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Council (NEC), and will continue until further notice.

The union is demanding the payment of a five-month wage award, implementation of the new N70,000 national minimum wage, and enforcement of the 25 to 35 percent salary increment recently approved for federal workers.

JUSUN, known for its strong advocacy for the welfare and independence of judiciary workers, declared that this latest move is a necessary response to government inaction on workers’ entitlements.

“Solidarity forever,” the statement concluded, affirming the union’s resolve to press forward with the industrial action.
