The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John T. Tsoho, has officially commenced the process for the appointment of eight new judges to the court’s bench, with a call for nominations from key judicial and legal institutions across Nigeria.

This development follows the approval granted by the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Hon. Justice Kudirat M. O. Kekere-Ekun, GCON. The approval was conveyed via a letter dated May 13, 2025, with reference number NJC/FHC/F.3/V/669.

According to Justice Tsoho, the appointment process is being carried out in strict accordance with the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the appointment of judicial officers of superior courts.

The eight new judges will be selected specifically to fill vacancies on the Federal High Court bench from the following states:

  • Abia
  • Akwa Ibom
  • Enugu
  • Imo
  • Kaduna
  • Plateau
  • Taraba

Eligible stakeholders—including the Hon. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association—are invited to submit nominations of suitably qualified legal practitioners for consideration.

All nominations must be submitted to the Chief Judge’s Chambers no later than June 26, 2025.

Justice Tsoho emphasized that nominations must adhere to the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the Appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts.
