The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has summoned controversial musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor.

The agency’s summons, dated May 28, 2025, was issued following a viral Instagram Live video in which Speed Darlington allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl nearly a decade ago. In the video, he described the incident in graphic detail, prompting widespread public outrage and triggering an investigation.

In a statement released Thursday, NAPTIP confirmed that the content of the video, along with other archived materials now in circulation, contain “admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.” The agency warned that these actions, if substantiated, may constitute violations of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

“You are hereby invited to appear in person for an interview as regards the alleged actions on Friday, 30th May, 2025, by 9 a.m. at the NAPTIP Headquarters in Abuja,” the summons stated. It also urged the artist to appear with legal representation or relevant documents, warning that failure to comply may result in further legal action.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) had earlier escalated the matter to NAPTIP after receiving reports from concerned citizens. However, due to uncertainty over where the incident allegedly took place, the DSVA cited limitations to its jurisdiction.

In a subsequent video, Speed Darlington attempted to walk back his comments, claiming his statements were fabricated for promotional purposes tied to a new music release. He issued an apology, saying he did not intend to cause distress.

Despite the apology, NAPTIP’s Cybercrime Response Team is actively investigating the matter, underscoring the agency’s zero tolerance for child exploitation.

“Your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter,” the agency reiterated.
