Two women believed to be the wife and mother of Ado Aliero, a notorious terrorist and wanted bandit leader, have reportedly been arrested in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

The pair were said to have been apprehended after being sighted in a mosque in the holy city. A video circulating online, believed to show the moment of their arrest, has attracted attention on social media, with users tagging the Nigerian Army Headquarters.

Aliero, who has long been on Nigeria’s wanted list, gained national notoriety after being controversially turbaned as the Sarkin Fulani in Zamfara State in July 2022. His installation drew widespread criticism due to his alleged involvement in banditry and terrorism across the North-West.

He was first declared wanted by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in November 2020, alongside 18 others. More recently, in 2024, he was again named on a list of 97 wanted terrorism suspects.

When contacted for official comment, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Onyinyechi Anele, declined to confirm the development directly, describing it as “a strategic issue that involves bilateral security matters.” She advised that further inquiries should be directed to the Defence Headquarters or the National Orientation Agency.
