Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), in collaboration with other security agencies, have raided and destroyed several identified bandits’ camps linked to a notorious bandit leader in Konyo Gbise, near Akwaza in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to a statement by the Nigerian Army, the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal elements within the OPWS area of responsibility. It forms part of a broader onslaught against banditry and related crimes aimed at ensuring a safe and successful farming season in Benue State.

The Army stated:
“In a recent raid conducted on May 18, 2025, troops of the 72 Special Forces Battalion of OPWS, operating in close synergy with other security agencies, captured and destroyed several bandits’ camps linked to a known bandit leader in Konyo Gbise, near Akwaza in Katsina-Ala LGA.”

The operation led to the recovery of assorted weapons, including one Sub-Machine Gun (SMG) with a magazine, a locally fabricated rifle with a magazine, and 7.62mm special ammunition.

Other items recovered included a rifle butt, a rifle barrel, 9mm ammunition, three Point-of-Sale (POS) machines, two generating sets, and a mobile phone. Additional items found at the camps were electrical cables, a painting machine, seven solar panels, a half bag of suspected cannabis sativa (Indian hemp), and various portraits of bandit leaders.

Commander of JTF OPWS, Major-General Moses Gara, commended the troops and urged them to sustain the momentum against all criminal elements threatening peace and security in the state.

He also appealed to the residents of Benue State to continue supporting military operations by providing credible information on criminal activities in their communities.
