The Nigeria Police Force has issued a directive to all zonal and state commands, training institutions, and selected police departments to urgently compile and forward a list of serving officers—particularly Inspectors and personnel in the rank and file—who are holders of Doctorate Degrees (Ph.D).

The directive, conveyed via a wireless message dated May 15, 2025, and dispatched by the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) through the Force Secretary in Abuja, emphasized the need for immediate compliance ahead of an impending promotion exercise.

Tagged “MOST/IMMEDIATE,” the communication referenced code CE:2300/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.4/292 and is titled “Promotion General.” It stated that the IGP is seeking the full list of Ph.D. holders serving in various police formations across the country as a matter of urgency.

Additionally, the message called for the submission of records of officers previously posted to the respective commands for the purpose of study, including those who have earned First Degrees, Master’s Degrees, and Ph.Ds. Relevant academic certificates are also to be included in the submissions.

The deadline for submission has been set for Friday, May 30, 2025, with police formations directed to treat the matter as very important.

The directive was addressed to senior police officials and training institutions, including AIGPOLS STAFFPOL JOS, POLAC KANO, DEPPOLS in Ikeja, Kaduna, Maiduguri, Oji-River, as well as the Detective College Enugu, Police College for ICT, Refreshers Training School, and the Batons Division.

This move is believed to be part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to recognize and integrate academic qualifications into career advancement frameworks, particularly as the institution grapples with modernization, professionalization, and human capacity development.
