The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Solomon Adeola, has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with saving Nigeria’s economy from total collapse through the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.

Adeola stated that the previous administration borrowed heavily to fund fuel subsidy payments and stabilise the naira against the dollar.

He described Tinubu’s bold economic reforms as the nation’s saving grace.

He revealed that, “Not less than $400 billion was borrowed under the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to stabilise the naira against the dollar, and this is a fiscal policy that has really left our country’s economy at not a good stead.”

The Senator made this known on Saturday during the 2nd Edition of his Town Hall Meeting, Mega Empowerment, and Thank You Tour held at Ayetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Adeola, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, said the Buhari-led government borrowed trillions of naira to fund fuel subsidy, which, according to him, benefited less than 1% of Nigerians.

Praising Tinubu for making tough decisions to revive the nation’s struggling economy, Adeola said, “All the reforms being undertaken by the incumbent administration in the country are to secure the future of the unborn generations of Nigerians.”

He urged Nigerians to remain patient with the Tinubu administration, assuring that the current economic policies have started yielding positive results.

On the empowerment programme, Adeola explained that it was organised to appreciate constituents in Yewa North for their support during the 2023 general elections. He noted that similar programmes had already taken place in Imeko-Afon LGA and would soon extend to Yewa South, Ipokia, and Ado-Odo/Ota LGAs.

Highlighting his achievements in almost two years at the Senate, Adeola said he has leveraged his position as the Appropriations Committee Chairman to secure developmental projects for Ogun West.

He listed completed projects such as road constructions, installation of power transformers, solar lights, ICT centres, Primary Healthcare Centres, ultra-modern markets, and police stations.

The Senator also disclosed that another 3,000 students selected across the six LGAs in Ogun West would receive scholarships and bursaries worth N200,000 and N100,000, respectively.

While expressing gratitude to the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, for supporting his initiatives in Ogun West, especially the empowerment programmes, Adeola called on the people to continue backing the current state administration.

Earlier, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Kunle Salako, commended Adeola for bringing tangible dividends of democracy to Ogun West.
