Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has expressed his support for the decision of President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on Rivers State.

Tinubu’s declaration came after an escalating crisis between the state’s executive and legislative arms of government.

The president emphasised that his decision was necessary to restore stability and ensure good governance in the state.

Reacting to the president’s decision, Ibrahim stated that Tinubu did not dissolve the democratic institution but rather suspended it for six months.

According to the lawmaker, the six months suspension would enable the parties involved to iron their differences so there can be peace in the state.

Ibrahim said: “The Senate is a democratic institution, and the Senate has given room for more members who is not aware of this yesterday, but got to know about it today, to be able to come tomorrow and air their views. Democracy is about numbers, it’s about participation. So what we are saying is that we can adjourn it tomorrow, in order to give room for more people to come. Tomorrow they be will be here, and then by 10 o’clock, we pick it up.

“I am in support with Mr President, because this borders on life and security. We don’t joke with life and security, you know, like I said, Thomas said, ‘Life of human being will solemnly, poor, you know, British. And then, of course, it will be, you know, unheard of, if the levienta will stop doing nothing when he’s supposed to do something when there’s a threat to life and property’.

“And let me say, the President did not dissolve democratic institutions. It only suspended for six months, and that is done anywhere in the world. This six months will enable parties to go to the table iron their differences and come so that there can be peace in River State and, by extension, Nigeria. So I think the President have acted in accordance with the Constitution.”
