An explosion has rocked the Trans-Niger Pipeline at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, sending shockwaves through the oil-producing region.
The affected section of the major crude oil pipeline is currently engulfed in flames, though the exact cause of the explosion remains undetermined at this time.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Monday night, has raised concerns over potential sabotage, especially amid recent threats by militant groups. These threats followed tensions surrounding the Federal Government’s withholding of Rivers State’s allocation due to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether the explosion was caused by technical failure, illegal oil activities, or deliberate attack. Emergency response teams and security agencies are currently assessing the situation and working to contain the fire.
The Trans-Niger Pipeline is a critical export route, transporting crude oil to the Bonny Terminal for export. Any disruption to its operations could have significant economic and environmental consequences.
As investigations continue, residents in the surrounding communities have been urged to remain vigilant.
