The Secretary to the Government of Rivers State (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has cautioned against interpreting Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s composed approach to governance as a sign of weakness.

His remarks come amid escalating political tensions and criticism, particularly from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Danagogo’s response follows Wike’s public condemnation of his decision to sign a letter inviting lawmakers for a meeting with the Governor—an action the Minister dismissed as “useless.” Speaking at the commissioning of Okrika Grammar School in Okrika, the SSG defended his role, emphasizing that facilitating such communications is part of his constitutional responsibilities.

He recalled performing similar duties under Wike’s own administration, where he also served as SSG.

Refuting claims of overstepping his authority, Danagogo clarified that his actions were aimed at countering misinformation, not engaging in political disputes. He commended Governor Fubara’s restraint, particularly in response to the blockade of the state assembly complex, which prevented him from presenting the budget.

While previous administrations might have responded with force, he noted, Fubara has prioritized stability and the welfare of Rivers residents.

Danagogo reassured the people of Rivers State that the government remains committed to economic growth and good governance. He stressed that Governor Fubara’s refusal to be drawn into political conflicts is a demonstration of strong leadership, not capitulation.
