Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the legislative body.

Obasa’s return was confirmed during a plenary session currently ongoing at the Assembly chambers. His nomination was put forward by Hon. Noheem Adams of Eti Osa Constituency 1 and was seconded by Hon. Nureni Akinsanya of Mushin Constituency.

The leadership crisis in the Lagos Assembly began in January when 32 lawmakers voted to remove Obasa and former Clerk Olalekan Onafeko. However, recent developments have shifted the balance of power, culminating in the resignation of Speaker Mojisola Meranda on Monday, March 3.

Following her resignation, Meranda was nominated and sworn in as the Deputy Speaker of the House, signaling a possible resolution to the political turmoil that has gripped the Lagos State legislature.
