The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan for his recent comments on the judiciary and the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking at a luncheon organized in honor of the 10th Legislative Assembly of Rivers State in Port Harcourt, Wike expressed his disappointment with Jonathan’s remarks.

“I overheard some leaders at book launch saying, ‘How can a ward chairman remove a national chairman?’ No ward chairman removed a national chairman. What the ward did was to suspend Ayu from the party. And suspending him from the party, can he still hold that position as national chairman?” Wike said.

The FCT Minister used an analogy to illustrate his point, saying that if a family chief is no longer recognized as the chief, he cannot continue to serve as the chairman of the rulers’ council. “It is being a family chief that qualifies you to be the chairman of rulers’ council,” Wike explained.

Wike also criticized Jonathan for blaming the judiciary for the crises in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP. “When there’s a problem in a party, people will go and seek a solution, an interpretation. The judiciary is telling us, by virtue of this and this, what they did is it right or wrong. We should praise the judiciary for taking the bull by the horn to say this is right, this is wrong, and not to vilify them,” he said.

The Minister concluded by stating that those fighting against him are only digging their own graves. “This fight you said they suspended, they removed, were they with you that time? Everybody, now you must fight Wike. Which Wike are you fighting? You are digging your grave.”

Meanwhile, many Nigerians have called on President Bola Tinubu to remove Wike from his position as FCT Minister, accusing him of using his allocation to create trouble. Some have labeled him a “Not a Good Statesman” who is now “fighting dirty in public” and not showing the example of a good leader.

Others have suggested that Wike is building Judges’ quarters for some hungry judges and using the former NBA president to fight dirty in the judiciary. They believe that his time is up for attacking former President Jonathan’s opinions, urging him to “shut up” and stop claiming what he is not.
