Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe, SAN, a front-runner candidate for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidency, has unveiled his manifesto, highlighting his commitment to enhancing members’ welfare and development. As part of his “Proactive Bar” agenda, Osigwe pledges to implement several initiatives aimed at supporting legal practitioners and improving the legal industry in Nigeria.

In a Twitter post, Osigwe outlined his plans to create an Endowment Fund for Legal Education, ensure total compliance with the Legal Practitioners Remuneration Order, 2023, and establish a Human Rights Attorney Support Network to protect the rights of lawyers when threatened or violated.

Osigwe also emphasized the importance of setting up structures to aid the Continuing Professional Development of Lawyers and creating a Branch Welfare Fund strictly for the welfare of members. He pledged to prioritize the needs of colleagues living with disabilities and senior citizens, as well as enhance inclusivity within the court system for colleagues living with disabilities.

“The welfare of members of our dear Association is a crucial part of my Proactive Bar manifesto,” Osigwe stated. “A vote for me on the 20th of July, 2024, guarantees the implementation of these initiatives, which are designed to support and empower legal practitioners across Nigeria.”

Osigwe’s manifesto, titled “Proactive Bar,” is available on his campaign website, http://afamosigwe.bar. The NBA presidential election is scheduled to take place on July 20, 2024, with Osigwe running under the slogan “For the love of the profession” and “Lawyers first.”

“In a move to ensure transparency and engage with NBA members, Osigwe shared key points from his comprehensive manifesto through posts on his Twitter handle.”

This approach aims to provide members with a deeper understanding of Osigwe’s vision and plans for the NBA, allowing them to make an informed decision when casting their votes in the presidential election.
