A Nigerian based in the United Kingdom, James Onireke (pseudonym), has expressed concern and confusion over the recall of N1.3 million from his Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) account.

The recalled sum was part of a N28 million deposit sent to him by his in-laws in Dublin for a special project in Nigeria.
According to Onireke, his account officer informed him that the recall was initiated by Providus Bank, claiming that the money was erroneously deposited by the sender.
However, Onireke is certain that the deposit was not a mistake, as his in-laws confirmed that they did not issue any recall request.
The situation became more perplexing when Onireke’s account officer mentioned that the recall was processed through Budpay, a digital payment infrastructure. GTB instructed Onireke to confirm with his in-laws if they had made a recall application through Budpay into a Providus Bank account. Onireke’s in-laws verified that they had not initiated any recall and had no connection with Budpay or Providus Bank.
Seeking resolution, Onireke wrote to GTB’s Platinum Support, a dedicated customer service team for consistent GTB customers with high annual turnover. However, his emails yielded no results, and he received the same response as he had from his account officer.
Determined to uncover the truth, Onireke requested the transaction ID of the recall from GTBank. At this point, communication from the bank became unstable, and Onireke was informed that the bank manager of his branch had instructed his account manager to cease communication with him.
Onireke, who suspects foul play, has reached out for help, stating, “I really need your help with this. I suspect something fishy is going on.”
FIJ, a media outlet, wrote an email to GTBank on June 10, copying Providus Bank and Budpay. However, as of press time, none of the financial institutions had responded to the inquiry.
