The Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, GCON, has summoned the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Tsoho, OFR, and the Chief Judge of Kano State High Court, Hon. Justice Dije Aboki, for an emergency meeting in his chambers on Thursday, 30th May 2024.

This summons comes in response to the conflicting judgments issued by the Federal High Court and Kano State High Court of Justice concerning a chieftaincy matter in Kano State.

The emergency meeting, which serves as a prelude to a full-scale investigation by the National Judicial Council, aims to provide the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria with a comprehensive briefing on this alarming development by the two respective Chief Judges.

In a statement released by Soji Oye, Esq., the Director of Information for the National Judicial Council, it was revealed that the Council is likely to convene an emergency meeting next week, during which the subject Judges may be invited and subjected to rigorous investigations.

The conflicting orders have raised concerns about the integrity of the judicial process and the need for consistency in the administration of justice. The legal community and the public alike are closely monitoring the situation, as the outcome of the investigations could have far-reaching implications for the judiciary.

The National Judicial Council, under the leadership of the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, is expected to take appropriate measures to address this issue and ensure that such occurrences are prevented in the future, thereby upholding the public’s trust in the judicial system.

According to the source, Justice Abdullahi Mohammed Liman and Justice S. A. Amobeda of the Federal High Court issued injunctions on matters related to the Kano Emirate, despite lacking the proper jurisdiction. Simultaneously, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court, which holds the appropriate jurisdiction, also issued conflicting orders on the same matter.
