*Emir Bayero Out Of Kano As Sanusi Set To Retake Throne

Some operatives of the Department of State Services were spotted at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Thursday, amid growing rumours of the Emir’s imminent deposition.

This development follows the passage of the Kano State Emirates Council Amendment Law (Repeal Bill), 2024, by the Kano State House of Assembly on Thursday morning.

Newsmen who visited the palace around 11 am saw some DSS operatives stationed in the palace.

The Kano State Emirates Council Amendment Bill was considered on the floor of the House after scaling second and third reading on Thursday morning.

The assembly dissolved all four newly created emirate councils in the state.

Rumours suggest that this move could pave the way for the return of the deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido II.

Meanwhile, Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Thursday, hurriedly left Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, shortly after delivering his keynote speech at the ongoing Rivers State Economic and Investment Summit.

Sanusi was in the middle of delivering his speech when the news broke the news about his reinstatement as Emir of Kano.

Our correspondent observed that there was increased security around the traditional ruler as at the time he was exiting the Obi Wali International Conference Centre venue of the summit in Port Harcourt, thereby making it impossible for journalists to have a brief chat with him.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has congratulated Sanusi II on his reinstatement as the 14th Emir of Kano.

Fubara, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, said that he received the news of the reinstatement of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) with great excitement, particularly coming at a time Khalifa Sanusi II was in the state to add impetus to his administration’s initiative to reshape the economic trajectory of the state.

The governor noted that his reinstatement by the Kano State government at this time showed that Muhammad Sanusi II’s dethronement on March 9, 2020, was against the wishes and aspirations of the great people of Kano State, and therefore, an unjust act to the millions of people who believed in his reign while on the revered throne.

Sources told our correspondent that Governor Abba Yusuf would sign the bill into law, on Thursday, but as of the time of filing this report the governor had not appended his signature to the bill to make it a law.

“Emir Sanusi is currently preparing for his return to the throne. Although he is not in town at the moment, we are expecting his return on Friday,” one of the sources said.
