Well, you should - trust me;

And, why, you might well wonder?

Because, believe me, she’s worth it




Our celebrant is life personified;

She oozes joie de vivre and zest;

Lives life to the fullest -

And making the most out of time




There’s never a dull moment with her;

Fancy-free and full of fun -

She’s the best company you can have;

Her personality is as bright as the sun




Her sharp wit is one of a kind;

So is her tongue - and mind;

You better have yours about you -

Lest she makes you look like a fool!




Onikepo is widely travelled and widely-read;

As a true Gemini, she soaks up knowledge;

With two degrees: one in law, the other in commerce;

Such a combination ensures she’s all-sense!




She’s so rounded, she’s truly learned;

As lawyers self-pompously refer to themselves;

In her case, it’s more fact than jest;

Equally at home in the court and the press!




Yes, she’s an editor and contributor -

In Nigeria’s leading publication -

Thisday Newspapers weekly feature;

Where, for close to a decade, she’’s held fort




Taking it to heights not previously achieved;

Notching up record after record;

The longest on the seat, since 2016;

Not to mention her personal column: awesome!




Her time on that beat has been has been nothing short of superlative;

She’s interviewed the Who’s Who in the legal profession;

With counsel falling over themselves to be featured;

Rare, indeed, is he (or she) who does not look forward to it




So deep is her mark that she ought to be a silk;

If there’s any justice in the world, that is;

Indeed, she’s come very close to it, too;

Only to be denied by a last-minute change in the rules




How cruel! How wrong! How unfair!;

Never mind - perhaps, it is just a question of time,

A gold-fish has no hiding place, it is said;

Because, her weekly columns are but gold-mines!




Many have reaped - and continue to reap her nuggets;

Seldom has a person successfully straddled two professions;

But, Onikepo has pulled it off to the admiration of all;

Another validation that, whatever men can do, so can women!

 

This ode is well-deserved, then;

A befitting tribute to a true friend;

Whose loyalty has been time-tested;

And proved over and over to be the best

You’re appreciated more than you can imagine;

For your sheer presence and dynamism;

And your humour- one of the best in the world!
