Prominent figures from Nigeria’s legal community, including past president of the Nigerian Bar Association and former Attorney General of the Federation Bayo Ojo SAN, Afam Osigwe SAN, and Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Institute of Continuing Legal Education (NBA-ICLE) Tobenna Erojikwe, were among those who gathered over the weekend for the fidau prayer of the late Alhaji Alarape Salman, SAN, in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Alhaji Salman, the first indigenous Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Kwara State, passed away at the age of 81.

The fidau prayer saw tributes pouring in from across the Nigerian legal community for Alhaji Salman’s lifetime of service and high ethical standards.

Among the dignitaries paying their respects was Mr. Tobenna Erojikwe, a friend and former Nigerian Law School classmate of Alhaji Salman’s son, Salman Salman. In comments, Mr. Erojikwe said he was “honoured” to join the Salman family and people of Kwara State to “celebrate the life and mourn the passing” of the respected lawyer who was popularly referred to as the Doyen.

Other prominent legal figures in attendance included former NBA national officers, current and past Attorneys-General of various states, and senior lawyers from across the country who worked with the late Alhaji Salman.

At the fidau prayer, speakers highlighted Alhaji Salman’s many accomplishments as a lawyer and public servant. He was the first indigenous Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice after Kwara State was created. Alhaji Salman was later elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1987.

Mr. Erojikwe said Alhaji Salman’s legacy as a top legal mind will continue to inspire current and future generations of Nigerian lawyers. He offered prayers that God grant him paradise and give strength to his loved ones.

The well-attended fidau prayer and tributes were a testament to Alhaji Salman’s impact on Nigeria’s legal community.
