The member representing Ideato Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has said that the November 11 governorship election in Imo state is an opportunity to right the wrongs of the past four years.

This is even as he again endorsed the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu.

Speaking during a live broadcast on the upcoming election, Ugochinyere said that it is the obligation of every Imo citizen to come out and vote on Saturday considering the horrors of the past four years.

He maintained that the November 11 election is an opportunity for everyone in Imo state complaining about misrule, intimidation, impunity, executive recklessness, unbridled violence and the wanton incidents of insecurity, to right all these wrongs with their votes.

He decried the ugly trend in the state, insisting that the PDP candidate, Senator Anyanwu and his Deputy, Hon. Jones Onyereri are the only ones that can rescue the state.

Calling on Imo people to come out enmass to vote for the PDP candidate on Saturday, Ugochinyere stressed that the Anyanwu/Onyereri mandate “is not just a mandate by the party but a mandate by the people of Imo state to recover Imo from the brinks.”

Lamenting the present state of Imo, Ugochinyere said, “I’m fully aware that there is no story about our dear state Imo, you already do not know. There is no aspect of misgovernance I will talk about, you have not personally experienced.

“Imo to us all, is an open book, and this book, we must not allow them to shut down without re-writing all the wrongs and detestable narratives for which our dear state is now known.

“The last few years in Imo state have been years of gloom, pain and rudderless leadership. No strata of the society; no sector, no community and absolutely no person in Imo has been spared of the horribly dark side of a stolen mandate!

“Whether you are backing the government or against the government; whether you are sitting on the fence or just sitting in your house; whether you are just minding your business or just asking innocent questions; whether you are employed or unemployed, rich or poor, of the political class or from the artisan community, we all are victims of the Supreme Court imposed government in Imo state.”

Speaking further on the sorry state of Imo and why it is not possible for Hope Uzodimma to get the second term, Ugochinyere said, “consider the current state of our beloved Imo.

It languishes in darkness, it aches with pain, and it shudders in despair. We’ve endured the loss of our peace, our security, and even our loved ones. Now, they seek to extend this suffering for another four years.

“We cannot renew a mandate we did not give! “They have turned our state into a den of robbers; a playground for corruption, impunity, and violence. And have ravaged and destroyed our institutions, our businesses, and our communities.

“Take a look at Imo today, We have lost our right to free speech We have lost our right to freedom We have lost our right to even fair politicking (Go round Owerri, only Governor Hope Uzodinma has a campaign billboard standing in the Owerri metropolis.

“Those of other candidates have either been pulled down or have been barred from erecting one).

“Where has that happened before? And he thinks that if he shuts down a fair contest, he will win? He will need to do much more to stop Imo people.

“Ugochinyere further lamented that “our nightlife is gone! A shadow of its former self. The business traffic into Owerri on weekends has fizzled out. Businesses have packed up and left Imo. There is a huge drop in commerce.

“If you’re in doubt, go to Orie Omuma in the Governor’s village and ask them. Go to the International Market, Orlu and ask them. Go to Orie Okporo market and ask them. Even Eke Mgbidi feels the impact.

“Majority of the customers that come from outside Imo state are too scared to return until there is a genuine guarantee of their safety. I didn’t mention markets in Okigwe because the realities in some of these communities are horrifying.”

He noted that in some communities, people go to bed afraid and wake up uncertain how they will survive the day, adding, “there is this pall of darkness and cloud of uncertainty in Imo we cannot wish away.

“What about the destruction of lives and properties, the closure of businesses and the atmosphere of fear and terror in our dear state?”

Hon. Ugochinyere explained that Anyanwu is the only candidate that can rescue the state at the moment.

He further explained why he was chosen as the flagbearer of the party. He said: “So I stand before you today with a sense of purpose, as Imo embarks on another journey of transition. As you know, our great party has chosen Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy) and his Deputy, Hon. Jones Onyereri, as the flag-bearers for the November 11th governorship election in Imo.

“It is not just a mandate by the party but a mandate by the people of Imo state to recover Imo from the brinks.

“So, I want you to understand the weight of this moment and the gravity of the task at hand. This and many other considerations have shaped my decisions in recent times.

“I have therefore resolved, after due consultation with our people, my leaders, my political associates, the GDF, the irrepressible people of Ideato nation, the good and long-suffering people of Imo state and indeed, all lovers of good governance and humanity, to fully support our party, the PDP and our Governorship candidate, Senator Samuel Anyanwu (Sam Daddy) and his Deputy, Hon. Jones Onyereri, to contribute my quota in the effort to put an end to the ugly era of pain, destruction and looting in Imo.”
