*May Sue Musician For Defamation

The law firm of Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN has categorically denied allegations made by musician Seun Kuti that its principal partner leaked documents to the P&ID company that sued Nigeria.

In a video on social media, Seun Kuti had insinuated that Chief Ayorinde intentionally passed information to P&ID while representing Nigeria during arbitration proceedings over their disputed gas contract.

However, in a statement today, BA Law LLP dismissed Kuti’s claims as false, misconceived and of no substance. The firm stated that no corruption charges were ever brought against Ayorinde by any court or tribunal in relation to the P&ID case.

BA Law and its lead counsel Chief Ayorinde denied the allegations in the strongest terms, describing them as untrue and malicious. The firm said it is weighing legal options, including possible civil and criminal actions against Kuti and his sponsors.

The statement advised the public to disregard the damaging videos, affirming that Chief Ayorinde and his firm unequivocally reject the baseless accusations leveled against them. It reiterated that the senior advocate upheld his professional duties while defending Nigeria in the controversial P&ID arbitration proceedings.

The law firm asserted that the videos peddling hearsay allegations against its principal partner are merely an attempt at character assassination. BA Law has called on Kuti to retract the claims and issue an apology.

In a recent development, Seun Kuti has issued a public apology on his Instagram account. He expressed regret for his previous statements and clarified some important points regarding the PI&D scandal.

Seun Kuti acknowledged his mistake and apologized to Mr. Ayorinde (SAN), stating that Mr. Ayorinde only charged him $197 million for legal services related to the case. He clarified that there was no evidence of Mr. Ayorinde sabotaging the case; instead, he fought diligently on Nigeria’s behalf.

Additionally, Seun Kuti addressed the location of the leak, explaining that the leak was from Supo Shasores’ firm at 20 Marina, and not from Mr. Ayorinde. He emphasized that Mr. Ayorinde did not leak any documents related to the case.

Seun Kuti also corrected a numerical error in his previous statement, noting that the correct amount involved in the case was $197 million, not $176 million.
