Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to provide daily report of flight delays across all airports in the country.

He said such a report should be made available to it on a daily basis.

He spoke at the ongoing stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos.

Keyamo spoke against the backdrop of the persistent flight delays in the aviation industry with passengers expressing frustration and anger with airlines.

Chairman, Senate Committee on aviation, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, had raised the issue of flight delays saying it had become an hydra-headed monster in the industry.

He said when flights are delayed or cancelled, there should be alternatives to protect the passengers.

Airline Operators had also insisted that almost 100 percent of the causes of delay are not within the purview of airlines.

But Keyamo who said he was tired of getting complaints on flight delays from passengers said the daily report of delays must be made available to the Nigerian public.

This he said would help in educating the passengers on the issue of flight delays.

Responding the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Capt. Musa Nuhu said, “I quite agree with you that we need to do more on the issue of consumer protection.”

Daily Trust reports that the NCAA provides regular updates on flight delays which are released on a monthly, quarterly and annual bases.
