The member representing Isa/Sabon Birni federal constituency of Sokoto state in the House of Representatives, Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga is dead.

A first-time member of the House elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday, October 11, after a brief illness at the age of 63.

The cause of death and the name of the hospital where he was confirmed dead was, however, not disclosed.

The death of the lawmaker who was a former sole administrator of Sabon Birni local government area of Sokoto state, was announced at Wednesday’s plenary by the deputy speaker, Benjamin Kalu who read a letter from one of the members from Sokoto, Abdullahi Kalambaina.

The letter reads in part: “We surely belong to Allah and to him we shall return. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our colleague, Hon. Abdulkadir Jalani Danbuga who died in the early hours of today, 11th July, 2023 after a brief illness in Abuja.

“He was until his death the member representing Isa/Sabon Birni federal constituency of Sokoto state. He will be buried today (Wednesday) in Sokoto according to Islamic rights. May Allah forgive him.”

In his tribute, the deputy speaker said: “We just lost one of our colleagues who just recently represented Isa/Sabon Birni federal constituency of Sokoto state. As we mourn him, let us remember what John Den said in the 15th century in his poem For Whom the Bell Tolls.

“He said: Each man’s death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind. Therefore, send not to know for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.

“We commensurate with the family, his constituency, Sokoto state, our colleagues from the north, and the Muslim community. This is not a good day for the House. He toiled to win the election.

“Think of his struggle to represent his people. All that money spent, all those efforts have gone down the grave today. It is sad for the family, his constituency, the parliament, and the country. It is a lesson for some of us who are still alive.

“Power is nothing, but we are all servants that have come to serve the nation. As we carry on as members of the parliament, let us remember that one day, the day of judgment will come when we will be called back to account for what we have done in your constituency, your state, and your nation.

“I hope that when we are called back we will be able to say to our maker that we came and we served and I hope He will be able to tell us well done. Let us serve with care and humility knowing that we will give account of our service”.

Members of three House from Sokoto state who spoke described the death as a big loss, not only to his family but to the parliament and the entire country.
