The legal teams of Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Labour’s Peter Obi have written to the Court of Appeal seeking urgent release of certified copies of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal judgment that upheld Bola Tinubu’s victory.

In a letter on Friday, Atiku’s lawyers led by Chris Uche SAN expressed worry over not receiving the promised copies by September 7th. They state the delay constrains their ability to file a Supreme Court appeal within the tight 14-day window after the September 6th verdict.

Obi’s team also appealed for the judgment copies, citing the heavy workload involved in meeting the Supreme Court deadline. The appellants have already lost 3 days of preparation time due to the non-release of the copies.

The Tribunal had dismissed Atiku, Obi and APM’s petitions against Tinubu’s election on grounds they lacked sufficient evidence. With the clock ticking on the deadline to approach the Supreme Court, the appellants are anxious to obtain the judgment records to file their appeals.

Legal experts say the appellants face a race against time to review the Tribunal judgments, identify appealable errors, research grounds and authorities and prepare substantive briefs for the Supreme Court within the strict two-week timeframe.

Any further delays by the Court of Appeal in availing the judgment copies risks prejudicing the petitioners’ constitutional right to appeal the Tribunal decision. Their urgent requests reflect apprehension over the narrow window for Supreme Court action closing rapidly.
