Dr. Kingsley Obiora, former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s economic landscape through his extensive experience and expertise in economic policy analysis, research, and advice.

With over two decades of experience spanning both national and international levels, Dr. Obiora has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fostering economic development in Nigeria and across the African continent.

Dr. Obiora’s illustrious career began at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 2007, where he was selected for the highly competitive “Economist Program.” During his time at the IMF, he tackled complex economic issues, including exchange rate assessments, debt sustainability, economic decoupling, and financial sector assessments. Prior to joining the IMF, Dr. Obiora honed his skills at the West African Monetary Institute and the Centre for Econometric and Allied Research at the University of Ibadan.

From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Obiora served as a Technical Advisor to Nigeria’s National Economic Management Team and as a Special Assistant to President Jonathan’s Chief Economic Advisor. In 2014, Dr. Obiora joined the Central Bank of Nigeria as a Special Advisor on Economic Matters, where he provided valuable insights and analysis to help the CBN navigate the complexities of external economic shocks. His tenure at the CBN showcased his economic policy prowess, as his insightful analysis directly influenced the Bank’s monetary policies and helped shape Nigeria’s financial landscape and economic stability.

Dr. Obiora’s academic journey includes degrees from the University of Benin, the University of Ibadan, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Managerial Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His expertise has led to numerous publications in macro, monetary, international, and theoretical economics, as well as appointments as chair of influential financial and economic institutions, such as the African Finance Corporation (AFC), the FMDQ Group, and the Nigerian Export Import (NEXIM) Bank.
