Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, on Monday, rushed to the Presidential Villa minutes after a rowdy session at the Senate over the screening of a ministerial nominee, Festus Keyamo.

Akpabio arrived the Villa around 2.25pm shortly after the Senate adjourned for a close-door session to determine the fate of the former Minister of State.

The Senate had been thrust into turmoil as Senators engaged in a heated debate, leading to a closed-door meeting being convened. The central point of contention was the motion to suspend the screening of Festus Keyamo, a nominee for a ministerial position.

Keyamo’s previous refusal to heed summons from both the Senate and the House of Representatives had left a lingering sense of dissatisfaction among many Senators.

This background led several Senators to express reservations about confirming Keyamo for the ministerial role.

The closed-door meeting convened after the session is intended to provide a platform for Senators to deliberate on the matter and reach a consensus.

The outcome of this discussion is highly anticipated as it holds the key to the resolution of the ongoing impasse.
