In a surprising turn of events, President Bola Tinubu has replaced Dr. Maryam Shetty, a ministerial nominee from Kano State, just before her scheduled Senate screening.

The President announced the nomination of Mariya Mahmoud Mairiga Bunkure, a former Commissioner for Higher Education in Kano State, to take Dr. Maryam Shetty’s place. Additionally, President Tinubu forwarded the name of Festus Keyamo, SAN from Delta State, to the Senate for screening.

President Tinubu had previously submitted a list of 28 ministerial nominees and followed it up with a supplementary list of 19 more. With the addition of Festus Keyamo, the total number of nominees stands at forty-eight.

On Friday, the screening process resumed, with the Senate granting parliamentary privilege to some former Governors, Senators, and ex-members of the House of Representatives, allowing them to take a bow and leave without further questioning. The process began with the screening of Adegboyega Oyetola, the immediate past Governor of Osun State, and concluded with Ahmed Tijani Gwarzo from Kano at 6.52 pm.

Among the twenty nominees listed for screening on Friday, those who were asked to take a bow and go included Adegboyega Oyetola, Ibrahim Geidam, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Senator Alkali Ahmed Said, Senator Atiku Bagudu, Bello Matawalle, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu, and Honourable Zephaniah Jisalo.

Other nominees who underwent the screening process on Friday included Tunji Alausa (Lagos), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe), Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (Niger), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Bayelsa), Senator Alkali Ahmed Said (Gombe), Simon Bako Lalong (Plateau), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu (Kebbi), Honourable Zephaniah Jisalo (FCT), and Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu (Kogi).

The screening of the remaining nominees is expected to continue today, with Bosun Tijani from Ogun State, Dr. Isiak Salako (Ogun), Lola Ade-John, Prof. Tahir Mamman (Adamawa), Uba Maigari Ahmadu (Taraba), Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Mairiga (Kano), and Festus Keyamo (Delta) yet to undergo the process.

South-South has 8 nominees.
South-West has 9 nominees.
South East has 5 nominees.
North-East has 8 nominees.
