The President of the Nigerian Bar Association Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, SAN, OON, has released names of lawyers who wished to be elevated to the bench.

PUBLIC NOTICE IN RE: APPOINTMENT OF ONE (1) JUDGE FOR THE NATIONAL INDUSTRIAL COURT OF NIGERIA: CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Recall that on 22 February 2023, following the request by the Honourable President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) published a Notice calling for expressions of interest from suitably qualified legal practitioners of Imo State origin, for appointment as Judge of the NICN.

The NBA has received expressions of interest from 28 members, and we hereby publish the list of these candidates. Members of the Bar and the public are invited to submit petitions/objections and/or comment generally on the suitability for appointment of the underlisted candidates. All comments/petitions/objections should be put in portable document format (PDF) and forwarded as an attachment to the President through ayodeji.oni@nigerianbar.org.ng or +234 803 345 2825. All communications in this regard must be sent in by close of work on Friday, 24 March 2023.

This exercise is aimed at fostering the resolve and commitment of the NBA to strengthen our Judiciary by enthroning a painstaking and transparent process which would ensure that only suitably qualified candidates – of appropriate competence, character, and reputation – are appointed to the Bench.
