The Nasarawa State Judicial Service Commission has written to the aide of the State Commissioner of Works, Aliyu Bello Aliyu over threats of “special punishment” to a Magistrate who issued a bench warrant against the Commissioner.

The State Commissioner of Works Idris Mohammed Idris and his aide Aliyu Bello Aliyu have been engulfed in a controversy following a bench warrant made by Magistrate, Aisha Abdullahi.
In reaction to the bench warrant, Mr Aliyu, an aide to the Commissioner threatened that the Magistrate would be meted with a “special punishment”.
The statement enraged fury amongst concerned Nigerians and was further inflamed after the Magistrate was transferred few days after the statement was made.
In the letter sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer and signed by the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa Judicial Service Commission, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa on behalf of the Chief Judge, the Commission expressed extreme dismay at Aliyu’s statement.
The statement read in part; “The Nasarawa State Judiciary enjoys independence and cannot allow any body bully any of its officials, no matter how highly placed.
It added, “You are by this letter given 48hours to publicly withdraw the said statement, issue an unreserved apology to the Magistrate and the Nawarawa State Judiciary or we shall proceed against you for criminal intimidation and other charges.”
