Miscalculated

For Ugo and Francis;
Their day of reckoning,
For fleecing Bank PHB;
Ended somewhat bizarrely

The culmination of an unprecedented;
Marathon, 12-hour judgment;
Guilty as charged, the court said;
For conspiracy and theft

"Anything to say;
Before sentencing"?
The judge asked, ritualistically;
The convicts started to pray

But, it was too late;
Their antics in this case -
For all of 10 years -
Had caught up with them;

Their cups were finally filled;
For two out of the three;
That were jointly tried;
Except Francis' wife

So, came an end;
To the glittering career;
Of a professional accountant;
He was put to the test -

But, in the end;
He was reduced to a groveling wreck;
A far cry from the arrogant mien;
Which he wore while the trial lasted

So much for the losers;
