Gunmen have attacked Ubani Police Station named after the former IGP, Mike Okiro, in Umuahia North Local Government Area, few distance away from the state capital.

The establishment of Ubani police station by immediate past Governor Sen. Theodore Orji was to provide security for traders at the Ubani Ibeku market and other suburbs.
Sources said a police officer was injured while repelling the hoodlums, stating no life was lost.
The attack was said to have occurred around 9am on Sunday.
It was gathered the hoodlums razed exhibit cars parked in the premises of the police station.
The incident was said to have left road users of Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Ohafia road stranded while exchange of fire power between the gunmen and police lasted.
Attempts to release suspects in police custody failed as operatives were said to have quickly evacuated suspects to other police stations within the capital city.
They were only left with the car exhibits, some of which can’t be towed from the police facility.
Residents of the area, who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent they heard heavy gunshots during the attack.
As at the time of filing this report, residents of Umuahia observed heavy presence of security agencies, causing apprehension.
Abia police spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident.
He said the hoodlums came in one Hummer Bus, a Toyota Sienna and a motorcycle.
Ogbonna, who debunked report the police station was razed by the hoodlums, confirmed a policeman sustain injury.
He said no gun was stolen away from the police officers.
He also confirmed the hoodlums entered the station and burnt some of the documents in the offices.
He said two vehicles and two motorcycles within the premises of the station were burnt.
In the presence of security personnel patrolling the state capital, the police spokesman said it was to forestall any further attack as intelligence revealed the hoodlums were heading to another location to carry out another attack.
