First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has issued an official statement regarding the controversies that continue to trail allegations of unethical conduct against its Managing Director, Mr. Adamu Nuru.

TheNigeriaLawyer recalls that a Group had earlier ignited a petition to the CBN & FCMB Board, demanding the sack of the MD.

This is based on the allegation that the MD foisted a state of depression on a deceased husband of a former employee, resulting in his death.

It was alleged that the MD had an illicit affair with the deceased wife which produced two children, which the deceased husband thought was his, not until the wife traveled to America when she later disclosed the fact that the children are not for him.

This incident coupled with some other things allegedly resulted in the death of the deceased person.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued, the FCMB noted that it is “aware of several stories circulating across several social media platforms about our Managing Director Adam Nuru, a former employee Ms Moyo Thomas and her deceased husband, Mr. Tunde Thomas”.

However, the bank noted that the matter is one described to be “personal” but noted that the ‘allegations of unethical conduct, require the Bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired’.

In addition, the bank added that the review will cover likelihood of ‘any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of these code of conduct ethics’.

It further noted that the probe will be done with urgency and ‘immediately’.

“We enjoin all our stakeholders to bear with us as we conduct this review and to please respect the various families involved”, the statement added.

However, it is pertinent to state that the current controversy appears to be putting the image of the bank on a brink.

This is because, people have taken to social media to demand closure of customers account with the FCMB, pending the resignation of the MD.

A lady tweeted:

“In Solidarity Close Account with FCMB till That Devil MD Resign!

“The scandal in FCMB is a reflection of a morally drowning society.

“Though, still been investigated, for an MD with all resources at his disposal and unlimited access to young and unmarried.”

In a rather sarcastic manner, another lady had made fun of a fellow lady on Twitter, stating that upon marriage, she might go and have an amorous affair with the FCMB MD.

This is rather taking tolls on the bank’s integrity, in view of the present state of things.
