The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said that an outstanding bill of a landlord cannot be enforced on a tenant.

NERC disclosed this via its Twitter page on 16th September, 2020.

“A Landlord’s outstanding electricity bills cannot be enforced on a tenant.” the tweet reads

According to NERC, the position was laid down by a court. It therefore called on the public to report such situations to its office

The tweet further reads:

“A judge recently ruled that the bills of a previous tenant cannot be enforced on a new customer.

Send us details if you are in such situations.
~Commissioner Nathan Shatti
